About this role

The VTM Operator ultimately manages all vessel movements in and out of the port. Working closely with the Marine Planner to finalise berthing plans, you must communicate with incoming ships to ensure processes are correctly followed.

From the moment a vessel enters a port, the VTM Operator will monitor and guide until it is at anchor. This includes transmitting navigational information in poor weather conditions, coordinating port tugs and mooring, and ensuring vessels follow the correct safety procedures.

As VTM Operator, you must be prepared to respond to emergencies, such as distress, marine pollution or other unexpected disasters, ensuring clear communication with all stakeholders.

 

Key Skills

  • Understanding of vessel standards and procedures
  • Knowledge of Safety Standards and ability to identify safety-related risk factors and manage risks
  • Strong technical marine knowledge, including standards, processes, laws and regulations.
  • Administrative skills, such as managing project schedules and providing status updates

Qualifications

  • DP World typically hire VTM Operators with 4-6 years naval experience
  • Diploma or Certificate of Naval Study or equivalent
  • VTS (Vessel Traffic System) Operators Certificate
  • VTS Operations Certificate

What can I do now?

  • Look into VTS qualifications or consider gaining experience in the navy
